Baby Abby Comes Home

Going home from the hospital outfit. Her daddy bought the onesie right when we found out we were having a girl. But since it was cold outside, we put her in her new cute outfit from uncle Jared and aunt Margi.

We are finally home now so I thought that I should update everyone. Daddy did a great job of getting pictures up, so I'm just going to add the stats and some more pictures! We went into the hospital at 9:30AM on Wednesday December 26th. After 3 times of ripping the skin off my arms and many tears later the nurses finally were able to get the IV in. I had to have 3 different bags of stuff pumping in me the whole time. One with sugar, one with insulin to help regulate my blood levels, and then one with potocin. They were not able to start the potocin until after 12:00PM because the Dr. had ordered a special treatment for my diabetes. Once the potocin started, my contractions got more regular and more intense. There were 3 other ladies being induced that day and apparently we were all progressing slowly, so the nurses came around and started breaking everyone's water because they said they were getting bored. After that, things still were progressing but ever so slightly. After the epidural and several hands of cribbage, things finally picked up. At about 10:00PM I started pushing, and at 11:15PM our beautiful baby girl was born. She must have been determined to share her uncle Vaughn's birthday! The cord was wrapped around her neck 3 times which was a scary moment for us, but everything was fine. She weighs 8 pounds 6 ounces and is 20.5 inches long. Her full name is now, Abigail Rose Jenkins. We were undecided about a middle name for a long time, but Rose it finally is! It still seems so sureal and unbelievable but it is the best feeling in the world to finally be able to hold our precious baby. I think she has my nose but I think she got Phillip's lips. I still can't tell who she looks more like. Her hair is very dark, which was a super surprise for me. We instantly fell in love with her and can't stop looking and kissing her. Anyway, we will post more later!

Nativity Play

Last night Phillip and I attended a live Nativity scene that one of the wards here in Vegas performs every year. It was such a neat experience! They performed it outside on the church's parking lot and had cast of probably 50 people or so. They had live animals too! Sheep, chicken, a dog, big horses and miniature ones, donkeys, and goats. It was so fun! They set up 3 sets of bleachers and have two performances a night for 4 nights. It was absolutely amazing. I had obviously been thinking about the story of Christ with it getting close to Christmas and everything, but this time I felt a special connection to it. I am guessing because I felt like I could relate every so slightly with Mary. Just with being due right around Christmas, the story seemed to hit home a little more. Of course I don't have to ride a donkey or deliver in a stable, but just hearing the Christmas carols and being reminded what Christmas really left me with such a wonderful feeling. After the play, they made an announcement that you could bring your children up to visit the baby Jesus and to pet the animals. We of course don't quite have any children yet, but I really wanted to go see the baby. It was a real baby that they were using too! And Mary up close was absolutely beautiful. It was almost surreal going up to visit them. I hope that we can all take time with the hustle and bustle of the holiday to really remember why it is that we celebrate during this season.

Wal-Mart Parking Lot

So this is completely random, but we thought it was funny so I decided to "blog" about it. We were leaving Wal-Mart the other night, when we had bought all our new Christmas decor and there was a couple walking out in front of us. I had paid no attention to them as Phillip and I were discussing the different items we had just purchased. As we approached our car Phillip took out our keyless remote to unlock it so we could get in. The couple in front of us walked along side our car, as I was assuming their car must be the one right in front of ours. But the husband stopped at the passenger side door of OUR car and opened the door for his wife. Phillip and I paused in complete bewilderment and confusion as the wife started to sit in MY seat. As I tried to process what was going on, I checked to make sure the Mickey Mouse with a graduation cap was on the antenna as this is the only thing that sets our car apart from all the other Silver Hyundai Elantras. Finally I cautiously stated..."Um, that's our car." The couple stopped, completely embarrassed and a little inquizative. They looked around in the car and realized that it really was OUR car, not theirs. The wife got out of the car, the husband shut the door, they laughed and apologized and walked two cars down to the left where their car was parked. Sure enough it was a Hyundai Elantra, only theirs was a goldish color. So just as a reminder, maybe next time we go to unlock our cars, we should wait until we are right at the car or else someone else might try to hitch a ride with us again.

So I thought I would post some pictures of our cute little house all decorated for Christmas. I have been playing Christmas music non stop since Thanksgiving and was soooo excited when we bought our new Christmas tree. It's so much fun to just sit and admire the tree, the lights and all the decorations. I LOVE CHRISTMAS TIME!!!!

Dr. visits and waiting

So as most of you know for the past several weeks and from now until the end of my pregnancy, I have to visit the Dr. three times a week. This would not be such an ordeal if we had two cars or if I could take Phillip to work every day. But with his work being over 20 miles away and gas prices being outrageous, that is not a good option. For awhile when I was just seeing the one Dr. every two weeks I was taking a bus to my appointments, as my Dr.'s office is about 2 miles away. Once the Relief Society President found out that I was taking the bus, she assigned someone to help find me rides. This could not have come at a better time and been such a blessing. At that time I had been "diagnosed" with gestional diabetes. My Dr. ordered a visit to a diabetes counselor and then a specialized ultrasound. Once I had the ultrasound, the perinatologist said that I would have to come back twice a week from then on to have an ultrasound to check the fluids and then to have a stress test performed. So I would have to have my regular Dr. appointments once a week and the stress appointments twice a week. With having someone to help me get rides to all my appointments has been such a blessing. On my last visit to my regular Dr. he mentioned that he would schedule an induction at our hospital for Dec. 26th if the baby did not come ealier on her own. I have another specialized ultra sound appointment this Thursday where the Dr. will guestimate the weight of the baby again. If she is measuring big or if for any other reason then he will be the one to move the date of the induction up. At this point with the uncomfortable nights and practice contrations I would not be opposed to him moving the date up a bit. Anyway, we are just waiting now and getting things ready for the "big" day whenever it may be. I just can't wait to be able to eat sugar again and not have to go for super long walks hoping when I test my blood it won't be out of control :) With our luck Phillip has a dental interview with UNLV on Dec. 13th, and that will be the day that the baby decides to come. :) Anyway, we will keep everyone posted!
